Who can join SJKARC?  

Anyone 18 years and over with an interest in horse riding and equestrian activities is welcome.  We cater for all riding levels, from beginners to experienced riders.  Please note: members must supply their own horse.

 

How do I join SJKARC?  

We hold an annual Join Up Day - Saturday 17 January 2026.

  • New members are encouraged to attend Join Up Day.

  • If you cannot attend, you may complete a membership form online and join later in the season (subject to availability).  Your membership is confirmed once payment is received.

Important:

  • New members must create a new website account to access membership links.

  • Returning members must log in to their existing account to access the payment link and early bird discount.

 

Is there a discount for joining early?

For returning members, yes, you can join early to receive an early bird discount.  Scroll down the membership page to view all payment plans, including our family discount option.

Can I join part way through the year?  

Yes, mid-year memberships may be available; however:

  • Member numbers are capped.

  • Availability is not guaranteed.

  • A waitlist may apply.

 

Can members under 18 join?  

No. Our insurance does not cover riders under 18.  For junior riders, we recommend a local pony club.
 

How many lessons do I get at a rally?  

Each rally includes two lessons, usually a combination of:

  • Flatwork

  • Poles/Jumping/XC

  • In hand

  • Working equitation

Lesson group sizes are typically 4–6 riders, depending on demand.

What is the format of a rally?  

A typical rally day runs as follows:

  • Two lessons per rider, with a 1-hour break between lessons.

  • 8:15am – Arrival, setup/tack up depending on helper duty and class time

  • 9:00am – Class 

  • 10:00am – Class 2

  • 11:00am - Class 3

  • 12:00pm - Class 4

  • Arenas, jumps, and club rooms are packed away after the final lesson.

Occasionally, an all-member meeting or optional post-rally education session may also be scheduled.


How much does a rally cost?

  • $50 per rally for members, payable online a week prior to the rally.

 

How do I book a rally?

  1. Log in as a site member.

  2. Click “Rally Booking” from the main menu.

  3. Purchase a rally ticket.

  4. Select your two lesson preferences.

👉 Visitor riders must first check availability by emailing info@sjkarc.com.
👉 Requests for specific coaches or time slots are not available.

 

What happens if I need to scratch from a rally?

Rally fees may only be rolled over if:

  1. A vet certificate is provided (horse injury or illness), or

  2. A medical certificate is provided (rider illness or injury).

Without a valid certificate, fees cannot be rolled over as coaches are booked and paid in advance.

 

Do rallies still run in bad weather?

Safety is our top priority. Rallies will proceed only if conditions are deemed safe, in accordance with Equestrian Australia rules.  Please note: no refunds are available (unless withdrawn prior to rally cut off), as coaches are booked and paid in advance.

 

Are stallions permitted at rallies?

Yes, stallions are generally permitted at rallies, but prior approval from the committee is required.

  • Stallions must wear the green disc to clearly identify them to all members.

  • All members are reminded to exercise caution and awareness around stallions for safety.

 

Do I have to help as part of my membership?

Yes. SJKARC is a volunteer-run club.  Membership requirements include:

  • Assisting with set-up and pack-down at every rally.

  • Assisting at, at least one fundraising event per year.

 

What do I do with manure?  

Please clean up after your horse - bag all manure and take it home with you.​  This helps maintain the grounds and our relationship with landowners.

 

Is there a dress code for rallies?  

Yes. Members are encouraged to:

  • Wear club polo and appropriate riding pants.

  • Wear EA-approved helmets for all mounted activities.

  • Wear appropriate riding footwear.

 

Is the club uniform required for events?  

Yes. The club uniform is compulsory when competing in ARCA challenges and ARC classes at events.

 

What is the club uniform?  

SJKARC polo top, SJKAC saddle pad, White or cream jodhpurs/breeches.  Uniform items can be purchased via the online merch page.

 

What facilities are available at the club grounds?

  • Vehicle and float parking

  • Water taps and wash bay

  • Day yards (BYO gatekeeper)

  • Gear shed

  • Club rooms with tables and chairs

  • Toilets and showers

  • Fridge, urn, and microwave

 

Can I buy food and drinks at rallies?

  • Soft drinks available for $2 (honour system)

  • Tea and coffee provided

  • Members are encouraged to bring a plate for morning tea

  • Please bring plenty of water for yourself and your horse

 

How do I stay up to date with club news?

  • Website updates

  • Regular emails

  • Facebook posts
