1. CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP

Serpentine Jarrahdale Adult Riders Club Inc (SJKARC), Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, ARCA, PCAWA or Equestrian Australia DOES NOT accept any liability for any accidents, loss, damage, injury or illness to horses, riders, spectators or any other person whatsoever.

All members of SJKARC agree to the following:

A waitlist will generally applyto new members, membership numbers are capped and subject to approval.

In addition to regular rallies, we will be holding 1-2 Events over the 2025 period.

Your membership application is subject to
Former members

In the event of a fall or incident; it is the decision of the First Aider, and NOT the injured person, as to whether or not an ambulance is required. All riders/visitors who are injured will be transported via ambulance to an emergency department, as per the EA WA policy. In the event of an ambulance being required, the cost of the ambulance will be borne by the injured party, and NOT by Serpentine Jarrahdale Adult Riders Club, Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale or any other party involved in the incident. This is a condition of membership, and is not negotiable. It is recommended all members have either private health insurance with ambulance cover, or separate ambulance cover.

2. MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide a safe environment for the facilitation of learning and improving the equitation skills of both members and their horses. We aim to provide a high standard of instruction in a variety of disciplines for a variety of riding levels. We also aspire to build commitment and loyalty to the club through promoting social interaction within our group of supportive, happy and positive members in a fun, caring environment.

3. AIMS

a) Teach a sense of responsibility and discipline

b) Encourage members to make a commitment to club, themselves and their riding enjoyment

c) Teach knowledge of horse care and horsemanship

d) Provide a high standard of instruction in riding skills so that each member can develop to their full potential in a variety of riding disciplines

e) Provide the opportunity to learn pride in presentation of horse and rider

f) Promote social interaction and provide a facility and atmosphere within the club to achieve the above

g) Ensure we have fun while learning

4. SJKARC RIDING RULES

a) In order to organise instructors and groups for rallies, members are asked to give 7 days’ notice to the rally organiser as to if you are attending or not. In your reply to the attendance email you will need to indicate your top 3 preferred lessons and level of riding for each (the choices will be indicated. You will will be allocated 2 lessons from your 3 choices, this may include things like Flatwork, Show Jump, X Country, Working Equitation, In hand, depending on what is able to be arranged that month). If we do not have sufficient numbers to fill one class, we cannot run that choice at that rally. Please be aware requests for a particular instructor is not acceptable, we spend a lot of time sourcing appropriately qualified and ARCA friendly instructors, if they want a particular instructor then a private lesson in their own time is more appropriate. On the day of the rally the Rally/Instructor Co-Ordinator will announce the instructors for that day, indicate your riding times and your helper duty, this will not be made available prior to the morning of the rally. Failure to advise the organiser of your attendance may result in your place being filled by a waiting list/guest member so that instructors’ fees are met. Rally refunds or credits are only given with a Vet's or Doctor's Certificate.

b) Due to increasing insurance liability claims, SJKARC is covered for Public Liability insurance by the club’s insurance provided by Marsh. As no personal accident insurance is provided under this cover it is recommended that all members join Equestrian Western Australia (EWA) or PCAWA as an open rider Category 1. EA is now offering “Adult Riders” membership, which is cheaper than Participant and Official, and still provides 24/7 accident cover. Find the 2021 online application forms here: 2021 EWA Membership Form_2.pdf (equestrian.org.au) or Http://www.pcawa.com/open_riders . This is factual information and not specific to an individual. Please read all information and decide which insurance option is right for you.

c) The insurance brokers require that all persons on horseback wear a recognised safety helmet (New rules apply 1st July 2019). Failure to wear an approved helmet may result in insurance being rendered void in the event of an accident or injury, wherever it may occur. You can have your helmets approved and tagged by Horseland Kelmscott, HB Horsewear, Kim LIndsay among others. Riders are not permitted on a horse at rallies without an EA approved and tagged helmet on their head.

d) Please arrive at each rally by 8.15am regardless of what time you are riding. Please check in at the clubroom to find your rostered helper job and classes for the day. Generally, if you are riding in the 10am session you will be rostered to set up the jumping or dressage arenas, or another job as might be required. If you are riding in the 9am session, you’ll be rostered to pack up at the end of the meeting (1pm). All members must be saddled up and ready to ride by the start of their session. ALL riders are expected to remain on the grounds for the duration of the rally. Please arrange with the committee prior to the rally if you need to leave the grounds for any reason. This is for insurance purposes, and our clubs Duty of Care. The rally Set up, pack away and Helper Duties are not interchangeable.

e) Please pay your rally fees by the Sunday prior to the rally. Failure to pay before the rally day could result in your place being given to a guest rider. No cash payments are allowed on the day.

f) Horses that kick should have a red ribbon in their tail, but all members should keep a proper distance from other horses in group lessons and when moving around the grounds.

g) Horse/ponies should only be tied to a float that is attached to a towing vehicle. Bring enough feed or hay for your horse throughout the rally. Water is available at the grounds.

h) Please clean up all manure and hay and take it with you at the end of the rally. No manure is to be scattered around the grounds. This is a council rule, and we may lose the use of the grounds if we break it.

i) No dogs are allowed in the arenas at organised club meetings or events. If you do require a dog to come with you, this is to be organised with the committee prior to the rally/event, at all times they must remain on a leash, their behaviour must not pose a risk and all manure must be collected and taken with you.

j) If you wish to bring a stallion to a rally or event, please discuss this with the committee prior to the day. Green discs must be worn.

k) Please keep the grounds tidy and place all rubbish in the bins provided.

l) The success of our club and the benefits obtained by all members will be assured by your willingness to help in any club activities, membership renewal will be assessed accordingly in consideration of membership numbers being capped.
